To this day he still prefers to draw by hand first before drafting on CAD. Jason has an appreciation for regional style Architecture with ‘a modern take’. Jason is due to sit his Registration Exam in 2021. Jason’s hobby of snowscape photography has taken him to Iceland. He hopes to visit Scandinavia as soon as the travel bans are lifted. <image:title>Our Team COL - Janice lee</image:title>
<image:caption>Architectural Graduate Janice, born in Malaysia, obtained her Masters in Architecture at the University of Adelaide in South Australia. She found herself lured to Sydney, captivated by the distinctively iconic buildings and high rises reminiscent of her father’s business in the construction sector back home. As a little girl, she followed her father’s site visits which inspired her to become an architect. A self confessed "home body’, Janice has an instinctive appreciation for the potential of residential additions and renovations to turn a house into a home. Her attention to detail and meticulous work contributes to the seamlessness experienced by our clients from the start to finish of our projects. Personally, Janice enjoys the warmth and conviviality created in her kitchen when baking her famed semi-sweet crepe cakes or “thousand layer cake” which bring joy and just a touch of sweetness into the lives of her friends and family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Senior Architectural Graduate A natural doodler, Jason’s drawing evolved from cartoons to the sets of drawings submitted to council for approval. Jason also plays the acoustic guitar.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team BW - Janice lee</image:title>

<image:caption>“Project Phoenix” is the rebirth of a 1950’s modernist guest house into a new contemporary family home whilst capitalising on a spectacular site. Key principles driving the design were to exploit and expand on the spatial qualities of the original house. A new circulation system was developed to negotiate the 5.4m fall across the site, and the 4 levels of building. The entry and two internal stairs were relocated to improve circulation and render access to private sleeping and guest room areas. A double height living space at the core of the 1950’s house was highly valued by the client and architect alike; it’s proportion and location showcasing the unique outlook and ideal northern orientation. Engagement with this living space has been augmented by the inclusion of a 9m x 3m high Swiss descending window making “inside” “outside”; connecting the entertaining terrace to new lawn areas, gardens and the terrace below. Retention of original sandstone steps, new terracing and entertaining areas both front and back, secluded private pool staircase that steps out of home to allow for views of sky and night time visuals of the pool. Rear balconies connect to terracing. Recycled grey ironbark timber floors resourced from a QLD bridge grounding the home and setting the palate for the rest of the house. Existing back rooms were reworked into open plan kitchen and dining areas with access through to the rear terrace via galvanised natural steel handcrafted bi-folds. <image:caption>Existing first floor in large roof space. Existing upstairs rooms jammed together with no sense. Alterations to add rear wing to blend in with existing architecture and unify the rear of the house whilst extending in a contemporary way. New pop-out kid’s playroom to rear of site. A rumpus room or family playroom is associated with the values of generosity and sharing. Taking the space typically allocated to the master bedroom, the rumpus room can instead enjoy a view, lots of natural light and be tucked away in a more private aspect of the home. As a 'universal space' it has flexible uses eg: sleepovers and office. In this way, the traditional master bedroom space can effectively be 'given back to the house' for the whole family to enjoy. <image:caption>Some words from the client! ”My husband and I were recommended Victoria by our real estate agent, and from our first meeting, we knew she was the architect we wanted to work with. Her warm demeanor and thoughtful approach made us feel confident that she understood our vision and goals. Victoria and her team truly listened to us, crafting a stunning design for our home that is both beautiful and incredibly functional. Her attention to detail was remarkable — from practical advice like planning cabinetry space that would adapt to our growing children’s needs, to designing the layout of the kitchen with the dishwasher, sink, and bin in a natural flow. These are details we might not have considered ourselves, but now that we live in it, the layout feels effortless and enhances our daily routines in ways we couldn’t have imagined. She expertly guided us through the bigger decisions, breaking them down into manageable steps, so the process never felt overwhelming. At the same time, she brought joy to the journey, encouraging us to add elements that reflected our personalities. Her gentle push to take creative risks truly paid off, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. One of my special requests was to add some pizazz to the house with British India-inspired elements after a memorable visit to Raffles. Victoria embraced this with enthusiasm, weaving in feature tiles, bold color accents, and striking black details that add so much character to our space. These touches have become some of the most complimented aspects of our home, and every “wow” we hear from guests still makes me smile. Thanks to Victoria, we now have a home that is a true reflection of who we are and one that we are incredibly proud of. Our family of four (and our furbaby) couldn’t be happier. We are immensely grateful for her talent, vision, and dedication in bringing our dream home to life.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>A new light filled entrance, main stair and direct connection from the street to the first-floor open plan living entertaining area provides the necessities for a modern family house within the shell of the old. The removal of a majority of the first-floor internal walls was achieved with clever structural design, implemented carefully by the builder to transform and reinvigorate the building. Considered and strategic planning to the lower floor has provided a light filled and peaceful family home with direct connections to both the front and rear recreational areas. The simple palette of natural materials throughout further accentuates the grounded nature of the building. The final design achieves a rebirth of what was an underachieving building, elevating it to suit the needs of the modern family. <image:caption>Landlocked site, no street address, only access via 32 public pedestrian steps and boundaries shared with 7 neighbouring properties – 11Q was a delicate negotiation between existing site conditions and achieving the brief set by the client. The design retained and replanned the existing ground floor, adding a new first floor consisting of living, kitchen, dining and master bedroom suite. Maximising the outlook to both the harbour and natural landscape features while masking neighbouring buildings was achieved through careful placement of openings and varying the sill and head heights to capture distinct picture views. The project embraces its site constraints, capitalising on its opportunities providing privacy and a successful family home despite the outcrop nature of the site. <image:caption>Contemporary family beach house in a Flame Zone Overall design feel is of luxury minimal contemporary interior with ample storage and “a place for everything”. Materials include American Oak flooring, natural stone and simple wall panelling to selected walls to provide subtle detail and serve as a backdrop to pinpointed views of the landscape. Entry level consists of a large study (which converts into a guest room) and large bathroom which serves as a guest powder room. The entrance connects to a large open plan kitchen presenting more as furniture with WIP to conceal all the practical appliances and equipment. The large floor plan provides for dining, relaxing and entertaining and is elevated and open to the north facing tree tops and vistas to the beach. Large wrap-around covered balconies extend the entertaining areas. Lower ground connects to the family room which opens directly to the large pool and north facing entertaining terraces, three bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry. All designed with simplicity and restraint opening to the external spaces. Upper level has private access from the entrance which provides an elevated master bedroom suite, large WIR and ensuite. The perfect spot to retreat from the family. Photography: Adam Hollingworth Builder: Lawson & Lovell Building Services</image:caption>

<image:caption>‘Kindred Renaissance’ Our design concept retains the existing well-built shell of the house while adding the warming lustre of an inviting material palette of natural stone and timber. The rebirth of the property is evidenced by subtle enhancements of aesthetically pleasing additions and upgrades to the existing structure. Set in natural bushland this North-facing property enjoys magnificent views towards Balmoral beach and the heads. One of the highlights is the sculptural central stair which serves to ignite the space, bringing natural light and warmth from the unfurling skylight in the ceiling, down through to the timber flooring which grounds and illuminates the space. American oak detailing and moulded timber treads add to the stunning aesthetic of the stair. The use of timber throughout the foyer lends a soft organic movement to the space transforming a previously functional presentation into a flowing family environment. Reflecting light creates a warm foyer and sculptured timber features conceal private rooms, service and storage areas. Ingenious Italian lighting design allows for different moods as new European fixtures from beautiful pendants to concealed lighting bathe the home in a warm glow that is simpatico with the timber used throughout. Stone limestone included in the bathroom materials has a textured finish evocative of light dancing off sand grains at the beach. Visualization: Virtual Vision</image:caption>
